Editorial Note: This is a review of the LG 55LE5500. Test results are for this model, but should indicate the general performance of other sizes in the xxLE5500 series. The xxLE5500 series includes the following models: 42LE5500, 47LE5500, and 55LE5500.  Read here for more details on series differences.
{{article.attachments['LG-55LE5500-intro.jpg']}}The LG 55LE5500 ($2799 MSRP) is a pricey TV, but dedicated cinephiles will appreciate the supreme attention to color performance. The black level and contrast ratio were admittedly disappointing, but that will have less of an effect in a darkened room for movies as it would in a sunny Sunday afternoon of football. There are enough ports on the TV for almost any home theater set-up, and the huge screen is enough to fill large rooms. The price is certainly an obstacle, especially when you consider a TV like the Sony KDL-52EX700, which is over a $1000 cheaper (by MSRP), offering better contrast, better streaming content, and only slightly worse color performance. We want to root for the LG, but only if you can find it at a compelling sale price.
