Prices Plummet on 2013 LG OLED TVs

Less than a year after its first US availability, LG's 55-inch curved OLED plummets in price.

LG's first curved OLED TV—the 55EA9800—has dropped in price by over 50% since last summer, plummeting from an original MSRP of $14,999 to a (relatively) more affordable $6,499.

That price cut bodes well for TV lovers everywhere: While still too tall for most consumers, it's only a little more than Panasonic's 65-inch ZT60 plasma TV from last year—a technology that once cost $20,000.

With new LG OLEDs on the way for 2014, it would seem LG has discovered a higher-yield manufacturing method, bringing prices for OLED panels down across the market.

In any case, LG and Samsung are currently the only TV manufacturers with OLED SKUs on the US market—and considering Samsung's stalling status, LG remains the last consumer hope for affordable OLED TVs in 2014.
