LG Electronics has just revealed even more information about its comprehensive lineup of new UHD (Ultra High Definition) TVs for 2014, to debut next week at CES in Las Vegas, Nevada. The UHD and OLED lineup now totals 12 new TV models, including the recently announced 105-inch curved UHD and the OLEDs announced two days ago.

The 105-inch Ultra High Definition UC9 has already been making waves as the world's first 21:9 aspect ratio UHD TV. The 5,120 x 2,160 resolution goes beyond 4K to capture the screen dimensions used in cinemas and IMAX theaters, and the picture quality is backed up by an integrated 7.2 multi-channel audio system co-designed with Harman/Kardon.

LG has also confirmed a new curved UHD series, the UB9800, which will be available in 65-, 79-, 84-, and 98-inch iterations. The entire lineup packs three key upgrades that promise to enhance regular HD content (720p and 1080p) to near-UHD standards: "Tru-Ultra HD Engine Pro" proprietary chips, upgraded "Super Resolution" algorithms, and "4K Motion Estimation Motion Compensation (MEMC)."

The IPS-panel equipped UB9800 TVs will be 4K-ready, as well, as each size utilizes a built-in HEVC 60p decoder, which assimilates broadcast signals in both the H.264 and H.265 formats. LG is also introducing Ultra HD Cinema 3D, which makes use of Film Patterned Retarder (FPR) technology when rendering 3D images.

Finally, LG's UB9500 and UB8500 UHD LED series will live on the more affordable side of that technology. The UB9500 will be available in 55 and 65 inches, while the UB8500 will be available even smaller in 49- and 55-inch varieties. So far, no information has been released on the pricing or availability of LG's new UHD TVs.

Press Release

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 4, 2014LG Electronics (LG) will unveil one of the industry’s most comprehensive ULTRA HD TV lineups* at this week’s 2014 International CES®. Last year, LG won over the crowds with a collection of ULTRA HD TVs equipped with advanced features and enhanced picture quality. At this year’s CES, the company will raise the bar once more, highlighted by the world’s first 21:9 aspect ratio CURVED ULTRA HD TV (Model 105UC9) with a screen measuring a remarkable 104.06-inches measured diagonally.“Our newest ULTRA HD TV offerings are going to turn a lot of heads at this year’s CES,” said In-kyu Lee, Senior Vice President and head of the TV Division at LG Electronics’ Home Entertainment Company. “Image quality is simply outstanding, and consumers are recognizing LG as a trend setter in Ultra HD technology and a leader in moving the 4K medium forward.”

World’s First 105-inch Class 21:9 CURVED ULTRA HD TV

LG’s new CURVED ULTRA HD TV (model 105UC9) features a massive 105-inch class screen with a 21:9 aspect ratio and 5120 x 2160 resolution. The result is a truly cinematic home viewing experience. With its beautiful, ergonomic design and enormous screen, the 105UC9 delivers a truly amazing viewing experience. The screen matches the cinematic aspect ratio that most movies are filmed in, virtually eliminating the black bars commonly visible with content played from blu-ray and DVD sources on conventional flat-panel TVs. The extra-wide screen also enables viewers to access viewing information on the side of the screen without blocking any of the ongoing action.

The new ULTRA HD TV’s exceptional picture detail is complemented by the deep, rich audio produced by a forward-facing 7.2 multi-channel sound system designed in collaboration with harman/kardon®. Embodying LG’s new ULTRA Surround concept, the speakers create an auditory experience that takes the viewer deeper into the on- screen environment.

Brilliantly Designed Premium 4K ULTRA HD TV

In addition to its world’s first 105-inch CURVED ULTRA HD TV, LG will also be showcasing its premium UB9800 series 4K ULTRA HD TV lineup comprised of 65-, 79-, 84- and 98-inch class models (64.5- and 84.04-inches measured diagonally, respectively; actual diagonal measurement being finalized for 79- and 98-inch class sizes). The UB9800 series is equipped with a unique proprietary chip that enhances the Ultra HD resolution and optimizes overall image quality. Thanks to this chip, LG’s latest Tru-ULTRA HD Engine Pro further differentiates the TV’s picture quality.

The UB9800 comes with a sophisticated upscaling function that takes SD, HD or Full HD content and renders it in sharp, near-Ultra HD quality. Working in tandem with the upgraded Super Resolution Algorithm, the Tru-ULTRA HD Engine Pro provides a more enjoyable viewing experience by helping to eliminate the visual errors common to some other types of upscaling systems. In addition, the Tru-ULTRA HD Engine Pro also supports a technique called 4K Motion Estimation Motion Compensation (MEMC), which helps ensures that all 4K Ultra HD content appears lifelike and virtually free of motion blur.

A particularly forward-looking feature of LG’s ULTRA HD TVs is the built-in 4K HEVC 60p decoder. The device decodes broadcast signals in both H.264 and HEVC H.265 formats, in both 30p or 60p. What’s more, the TV seamlessly displays Ultra HD content from nearly any input source, including HDMI, USB and LAN. The new models also feature LG’s unique ULTRA HD CINEMA 3D, which uses Film Patterned Retarder (FPR) technology to render convincing 3D images with virtually no flicker or cross-talk. LG’s new ULTRA HD TV models features impressive 3840 x 2160 resolution ULTRA IPS panels. LG’s IPS technology is highly regarded for its ability to offer extraordinarily detailed images and a wide viewing angle. This series also features improved sound with the collaboration with harman/kardon®.

Rounding out LG’s 12-model Ultra HD TV lineup in the United States for 2014 are two Ultra HD CURVED OLED series and two additional LED series. The OLED series include the EC9800, available in a 77-inch class size (76.7-inches measured diagonally), along with the EC9700, available in 55- and 65-inch class sizes (54.6- and 64.7-inches measured diagonally). The two additional LED series include the UB9500, available in 55- and 65-inch class sizes (54.6- and 64.5-inches measured diagonally) and UB8500, available in 49- (actual diagonal measurement being finalized) and 55-inch class sizes (54.6-inches measured diagonally).
