LG recently announced new firmware updates to the G6 Series, E6 Series, and C6 Series 2016 4K OLED TVs reducing their input lag considerably: from 50-60 ms to about 34 ms (according to the clever gents over at HDTVTest) when HDR Game Mode is enabled.

LG's 4K OLEDs are some of the best-looking TVs around. We've raved for years about their essentially infinite contrast, huge viewing angles, and color that makes Bollywood movies look like silent films. Besides the hefty price tags, high input lag during 4K/HDR gaming was OLED's only real drawback. Thankfully—following a recent torrent of concern and complaints from OLED owners who'd rather clutch a video game controller than a bowl of popcorn most nights—LG has pulled through. Kudos!

The more affordable B6 Series, which uses a different chipset, should be getting the same update soon. Sadly, there's no word yet on whether any 2015 4K OLEDs will be getting the new Game mode.

The news most heavily impacts owners of the Xbox One S or PS4 Pro. Neither the original Xbox One nor PlayStation 4 consoles are 4K-compatible (though after system update 4.0, vanilla PS4s are HDR-compatible) so this isn't a pressing concern unless you've upgraded. But if you've got the scratch and know a next-gen console is coming to the underside of a festively decorated tree near you, LG's 4K OLEDs are now one of the best pairings you can make.
