VIZIO E552VLE Smart LCD HDTV
An inexpensive, mid-range LED TV that’s odd in every way.
Software & Internet
Like its design, the VIZIO E552VLE is clunky and oversized when it comes to menus, as well. The Picture/Sound/Settings menus are laid out on a 3x3 grid over the left half of the screen, with small pictograms that represent each category. The infrared remote navigates them easily, but the time it takes for your cursor to move from one picture to the next is a little slower than we'd like. Still, if you can get past the cursor speed, the menus are presented in a comprehensive way, and feel very easy to work within.
The TV's smart content is just the opposite. Rather than organizing their smart content into an accessible hub the way that LG and Samsung have, VIZIO has laid out each separate app/widget on an infinite loop; most of them can be navigated through, but some of them (namely the Yahoo! apps) can be swapped with a paired app by pressing up or down. Confused yet? We were too, but we soldiered on and put together an extensive look at VIZIO's Smart TV Platform.
