Introduction

The Sony KDL-40EX400 ($599 MSRP) is an inexpensive LCD TV. Eschewing fancy LED backlighting for older CCFL technology, the TV nevertheless managed to impress us with great contrast and color performance. It lacks some bells and whistles that you'd find on more expensive Sonys, like streaming content and DLNA support, but you get what you pay for.
