Calibration

Currently, our testing and calibration process only contains SDR standards (2.3/2.4/1886 gamma, 30-50 fL nit targets, rec.709 color space, 8-bit colorimetry), so the results below are the KS9800's performance in the out-of-the-box Movie mode default.

Below are its default settings and my final calibration settings for SDR performance. Expect an update soon and additional sections detailing HDR color adherence and HDR10/CalMan 5 workflow calibration.

KS9800-SDR-Calibration
The KS9800 includes a gamma slider, 2/10 point white balance controls, and a color space selector with a "Custom" CMS option.

Color Gamut

KS9800-SDR-Gamut
The KS9800's out of the box rec.709 color performance was quite accurate. I made small improvements during calibration, but they weren't terribly necessary to enjoy the picture.

Grayscale & RGB Emphasis

KS9800-SDR-Grayscale
The KS9800's grayscale error peaked a little over 5dE at 100 IRE. During calibration, I was able to reduce the error well below the visible threshold.
KS9800-SDR-RGB-Emphasis
The KS9800's RGB emphasis ranges around ±5% emphasis from 10 to 100 IRE. After calibration, it was essentially perfect.

Gamma

KS9800-SDR-Gamma
Getting perfect gamma on a full-array local dimming TV can be very tricky. Turning off LED Local Dimming and using rasters allowed me to approach a 2.3 standard.
